Moving into their two-bedroom condominium in 2020, it was the first time Leana Doray and her husband Dharma could truly make a home their own. While they had previously lived in renovated homes, the new condo, located in Singapore’s Orchard Road district, was a blank slate.
“It took us some time to agree on what our home should look and feel like,” recalls Leana. “What we finally settled on was that we wanted it to be a place to rest and relax. Dharma thinks of it as our Fortress of Solitude where we can get away from it all.”
Looking to the living room as the centre of the home, Leana and Dharma chose a KING Jasper Sofa. Leana shares how Jasper has blended seamlessly in with their lifestyle.
For Leana, Jasper was “Love at first sight”.
Leana has somewhat of a history with KING. While studying and working in Sydney, she bought her first KING sofa, a Delta.
“In Sydney, KING is a brand that’s known and loved by all,” explains Leana. “I lived near a KING showroom and when I needed to buy a sofa, that’s where I went.”
When she moved, Leana passed her much-loved Delta on to a close friend who had the sofa for another decade before passing it on to another friend.
“When I discovered they had KING in Singapore, I told my husband the story of how long-lasting the sofas are. I also had this nostalgic feeling, remembering my younger days in Australia.”
When they went to the KING showroom, Dharma didn’t need any convincing. “It was love at first sight,” laughs Leana. Based on the size of their living room and style they envisioned, they were immediately drawn to the Jasper Sofa.
Jasper is fully customisable in your choice of premium fabric or leather.
Entering their third year of working from home, Leana says that the living room is the centre of “where the rest and relaxation happens”. From relaxing on the sofa at the end of the day to entertaining friends, the Jasper Sofa has definitely been a good buy.
While the modular aspect of the sofa was nice to have, it wasn’t the most important item on Leana's wish list.
“We were definitely looking for quality,” acknowledges Leana. “Our philosophy is that we’re ok to spend more on things we rest on.”
“With a KING sofa you get a designer sofa that looks beautiful and I know for a fact that it will last. Dharma also really liked the warranty, sturdy steel structure, plush cushions, and generous size of the sofa which filled our living room nicely.”
The living room is where Leana and Dharma rest and relax but it also often doubles as a workspace.
“On the sofa, we feel more relaxed,” she explains. “When we need to take a break from formal work setups, the sofa is where we move to. It’s a mindset thing and it feels like we’re taking a break without taking a break.”
A fully modular design, Jasper can be rearranged to suit your lifestyle.
Leana and Dharma used the sofa as the centrepiece of the living room. It was a guide to build what the rest of the room would look like.
“It was important to figure out the sofa first and everything else from carpet to coffee table was chosen to be cohesive,” she recalls. “We chose Smoked Oak for the timber finish on the Jasper as it matched the dark wood features in our kitchen. We then chose the bevel of our Samsung Art TV to complement that.”
While she had a very specific vision for the fabric she wanted for her Jasper Sofa, Leana was impressed by the sheer choice of fabrics.
“We’re really happy with the fabric we chose,” she says. “But since we bought our Jasper Sofa, I’ve fallen more in love with boucle. It’s such a beautiful, textural fabric. The KING linens are also divine. It’s good to know that if we want to change the fabric of our Jasper down the track, we have that option to refresh or reset the room.”

The comfort, practicality and aesthetic of the Jasper are what drew Leana in. But she admits that whatever couch she chose, she was adamant that it would be an L shape.
“I live on the ‘L’,” she says. “I say that it stands for Leana!”
“One of the issues you can have with modular furniture is that the pieces separate, and we initially had this problem. When we next visited the KING showroom, we mentioned it to the team and they told us to add a joiner. It was such a simple and brilliant fix. No more separating pieces!”
