A partnership built on design excellence: King Living and akiHAUS

At King Living, we pride ourselves on our enduring partnerships with industry-leading designers who share our passion for quality, innovation, and exceptional customer experiences. One such partnership that has flourished over the past decade is with Lawrence Puah, the founder and director of akiHAUS Design Studio in Singapore.

Since 2016, Lawrence and his team have consistently chosen King Living to bring their client’s design visions to life. Recently, we had the pleasure of speaking with Lawrence to reflect on our journey together and explore the creative synergy that has made this collaboration so successful.

Aligning design philosophies

A commitment to constant evolution and improvement is at the heart of the akiHAUS and King Living partnership. This desire for excellence has led to shared success over the years.

“We believe that a good designer should constantly evolve and strive to be better,” Lawrence reflects. “We’ve been working with King Living for over eight years, and during this time, I’ve seen how the products have been evolving, not only improving on their build but also becoming more refined in their design. This ensures that King Living always stays relevant and fully aligns with our design philosophy.”

For any designer, the ability to customise a design to suit their client's needs perfectly is key.

“The product line and its design are crucial when recommending a furniture brand to clients,” Lawrence explains. “I love that King Living has an extensive variety of styles and designs, which gives me a wide selection to choose from when curating furniture for our projects.”

The extensive King Living Collection, which encompasses sofas, dining, bedroom, and outdoor furniture, provides a convenient one-stop shop for akiHAUS’s diverse design needs.

Among the many King Living designs, Lawrence’s current favourite is the 1977 Sofa. He admires its soft, organic form and ability to fit into any interior style. “I like the fact also that not only could I work with the different modules to create a variety of forms, but that there is versatility to have different finishes in each of the modules as well. It is the ultimate fun sofa to work with!” he expressed.

Endless customisation and enduring quality

King Living furniture's modular and customisable nature makes it adaptable to various design needs. Lawrence illustrates this with an ongoing project where the team proposed creating a large daybed using the Kato Sofa. “The modules of the Kato Sofa perfectly rearranged to fit the furnishing concept we were looking for. The entire family could lounge on the sofa,” Lawrence explains, highlighting the flexibility and adaptability of the modular design. The same clients had previously chosen King Living designs for an apartment the akiHAUS team designed, underscoring their satisfaction with the brand.

The hallmark of King Living products lies not only in their design but also in the quality of materials used. Lawrence emphasises, “The high-quality materials that King Living uses are an essential aspect in our consideration, especially for furniture where the touch, feel, and comfort of the finishing are very important.”

Service that complements design

Beyond the products themselves, the service provided by King Living has been instrumental in maintaining this long-standing relationship. Lawrence emphasises the importance of a seamless and supportive journey for clients.

“As cliché as this may sound, the process of designing a home is as much about the journey as it is about the end product,” Lawrence shared. “The team at King Living has always been very friendly and attentive when attending to our clients, and they remain so even after the products have been delivered, promptly assisting to resolve any issues should they ever arise.”

One of the most rewarding aspects of this partnership has been the positive feedback from clients. Lawrence recalls a particularly memorable project at Bijou, a small one-bedroom apartment where they proposed the Reo Recliner

Initially, the clients were concerned about the sofa’s size, but their worries dissipated upon its arrival. “They were very surprised and happy with how well it fits into their living space,” Lawrence says. This project underscored the impact of thoughtful design and the importance of details in transforming a space. “I have loved the Reo Sofa since it first launched, and it may be one of the designs I have used the most.” Lawrence added.

Trends and timeless design

As the furniture and interior design industry evolves, Lawrence foresees a future shaped by constant flux and changing trends, influenced by social media. “With the advent of social media, I think interior design will not be the same as it was before where trends have staying power, but rather become a constant flux of different styles.”

He believes King Living design's continuous evolution and product innovation will ensure its continued relevance. “The constant evolution of King Living and its product means that it will be able to fit into the furniture and interior design industry well into the future,” he predicts.

Lawrence advises other designers considering King Living products to embrace their versatility. “Make good use of the versatility of the different designs that King Living products provide to work with different types of design and concepts,” he advises, emphasising the wide range of options available.

As we celebrate this long-term partnership with akiHAUS, we look forward to many more years of collaboration, innovation, and design excellence. Together, we will continue to create beautiful, functional spaces that bring joy and comfort.
